How to group and lock elements
Group related elements so you can move, resize, and organize them together. You can also lock elements or groups to prevent accidental changes while editing other parts of your design.
Before you start
Make sure you have permission to edit the board and are in design editing mode.
Group elements
- Select two or more elements on the canvas.
- Select Group from the toolbar.
- The selected elements are combined into a group and can be moved, resized, arranged, or styled together.
The group appears as a parent layer in the Layers panel, with its grouped elements listed as child layers. Groups can also be aligned or anchored within their parent screen or container.
Select and edit elements in a group
Select the group, then select an individual element inside it to edit that element separately. You can also expand the group in the Layers panel and select the element you want to edit.
Changes made to an individual element do not affect the other elements in the group.
Ungroup elements
To separate grouped elements:
- Select the group.
- Select Ungroup from the toolbar.
The elements remain in their current positions but can be selected and edited independently again.
Lock elements
Lock elements that you do not want to accidentally select, move, resize, or edit. You can lock elements in either of these ways:
- Select one or more elements or groups, open More actions from the toolbar or right-click the selection, then select Lock.
- Open the Layers panel, then select the Lock icon next to the element or group.
A locked element remains visible on the canvas but cannot be edited until it is unlocked.
Locking is useful for backgrounds, guides, decorations, and completed sections that should remain unchanged.
Unlock elements
Unlock an element or group when you need to edit it again. You can unlock elements in either of these ways:
- Select the locked element, then select the Unlock icon in the toolbar.
- Open the Layers panel, then select the Lock icon next to the locked element or group.
After unlocking it, you can select, move, resize, or edit the element normally.
Tips for grouping and locking elements
- Group elements that belong to the same component or section.
- Use the Layers panel to quickly select the elements you want to group or lock.
- Give important groups descriptive names in the Layers panel.
- Lock background elements before editing content placed above them.
- Lock completed groups to prevent accidental changes.
- Ungroup elements when you need to reorganize or edit them independently.
