How to guide AI generation with presets

This article explains how to guide AI generation with presets in Visily. Presets help you steer the AI toward the type of output, style, and visual direction you want. 

Use presets to guide AI generation

You can use the following presets and guidance options to shape how Visily AI generates results.

Set up Deep Design

Deep Design is powered by Gemini 3 Pro and helps you create more refined and sophisticated designs.
When the deep design is off, the AI uses the standard mode, which offers faster generation and lower cost. Enable it when you need higher visual quality and more detailed design results.
  1. Open the Visily AI Chat Assistant.
  2. Click the Deep Design icon in the top menu of the chat box.
  3. Toggle it on or off, depending on your needs.

Set up Image source in design

Use Image source in design to control what type of images the AI uses in generated UI screens. This setting does not apply to the separate Image generation feature.
  1. Open the Visily AI Chat Assistant.
  2. Click the Image source in design icon in the top menu of the chat box.
  3. Choose the image source you want the AI to use for design generation:
    1. Custom AI images: Use AI to generate custom images for your UI design that match your prompt
    2. Stock images: Use ready-made stock images for faster results
    3. Image placeholders: Use placeholders instead of real images

Info
On the Free plan, the Custom AI images option switches to stock images after two (02) uses. Upgrade to a paid plan to keep using it.

Set up Design Instructions

Use Design Instructions to guide the AI with your project goals, design preferences, and brand context across generations. For more details, see How to set design instructions for AI.

Use image-based guidance

Use image-based guidance when you want to show the AI visual references for the style, layout, or content you want.
  1. Open the Visily AI Chat Assistant.
  2. Click the Upload images icon in the bottom menu of the chat box to add up to 4 reference images to the chat. Supported formats are JPG, PNG, and WebP, with each file under 5 MB after compression.
  3. Enter your prompt and let the Visily AI generate the design.

Use reference-based generation

Use reference-based generation when you want the AI to create or refine designs based on existing content on your board or previous AI outputs.
  1. Open the Visily AI Chat Assistant.
  2. Send a reference to the chat box in one of the following ways:
    1. To use an existing design on the canvas, click the Select icon in the bottom menu of the chat box, then select the elements on the canvas to send them to the chat

    2. To use a previous generated output from the same chat thread, click the More actions icon on the generated output, then select Send to AI Chat to quote the full output in the chat box.

  3. Enter your prompt describing how you want the AI to use that reference.
  4. Generate the result.

Notes

  1. If there is a conflict between your final prompt and the active Design Instructions, your prompt for that generation takes priority. 
  2. You can create multiple instruction sets, but only one can be active at a time. 
  3. For best results, pair a clear and specific prompt with a visual reference whenever possible. For more tips on writing effective prompts, see our Prompt Guide.
  4. In addition to quoting existing canvas content or previous generated outputs as references for new AI generation, you can also use them to ask the AI to refine the design directly. For more details, see How to use the Visily AI Chat Assistant to modify your design.
