How to use the Visily AI Chat Assistant to modify your design

This article explains how to use the Visily AI Chat Assistant to modify your design. You can ask the AI to refine either a previous generated output or an existing design on your canvas.

Modify an existing design on the canvas

To modify an existing design on the canvas with the Visily AI Chat Assistant, you first need to send the element you want to update to the AI chat box.
You can do this in either of the following ways:

Option 1: Quote the design element from the AI chat box

  1. Open the Visily AI Chat Assistant.
  2. Click the Select icon in the bottom menu of the chat box.
  3. Select the element you want to modify on the canvas, such as a screen, container, image, or table.
  4. Enter your prompt to describe the changes you want.
  5. Generate the updated result.

Option 2: Send the design directly from the canvas

  1. Select the element you want to modify on the canvas, such as a screen, container, image, or table.
  2. In the toolbar, click Visily AI.


  3. Choose one of the following options:
    1. Send to AI Chat: Sends the selected design to the chat box as a reference. You can then enter a prompt to describe the changes you want to the chat box and generate the updated result.

    2. Select area to modify: Lets you annotate specific parts of the design that you want to change while keeping the rest unchanged. When you finish annotating, click Start modification. This will automatically send the request to the AI chat box and run the generation.

    3. Convert to mobile design: Available only when a screen is selected. This sends the screen to the AI chat box and immediately generates a mobile-friendly version.

Modify a previous generated output

  1. Open the Visily AI Chat Assistant.
  2. In the chat thread, click the More actions icon on the generated output.
  3. You will see options similar to those available when sending a design directly from the canvas.
  4. Follow the same modification flow to update the output.

As a result, your design is updated based on the reference you selected and the prompt you provided. The generated result appears in the AI chat thread, where you can continue reviewing and refining it or add it to your current board.

Notes

  1. For best results, use a clear and specific prompt. Pairing your prompt with a visual reference helps the AI better understand your intent and produce more accurate, context-aware results. For more tips on writing effective prompts, see our Prompt Guide.
  2. If needed, you can continue refining the result in the same chat thread with additional prompts. This follows the same modify flow described above. 
  3. The modify action uses AI Credits at the same rate as a new generation, depending on the type of design you are modifying. See How AI Credits work for credit usage details.
